Tell us about the mission of your non-profit (up to 500 words)
Harvesters mobilizes the power of our community to create equitable access to nutritious food and address the root causes and impact of hunger. Harvesters acquires, stores and distributes food to a network of more than 900 nonprofit agencies including food pantries, community kitchens and shelters across 27-counties in northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri.
What's a recent success story or milestone you're proud of?
We recently opened a new distribution center in Lawrence, Kansas. Our main facility remains in Kansas City, but our Kansas Distribution Center moved from Topeka to Lawrence as a result of a large construction project on I-70 in downtown Topeka. Our new facility allows us to improve efficiency, save costs and feed more neighbors experiencing food insecurity in northeast Kansas.
What do you love most about being part of the Chamber?
We are proud to be members of the Chamber as a sign of support for the LGBTQ+ community. Research shows LGBTQ+ neighbors are disproportionately impacted by food insecurity. Through Chamber involvement we hope to raise awareness of the impact of food insecurity and help connect those who need assistance with the resources they need to thrive.
How can our Chamber best support and be involved with your non-profit?
