The Kansas City Women’s Chorus (KCWC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Hilary Morton as artistic director.

The Kansas City Women’s Chorus (KCWC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Hilary Morton as artistic director.
Morton brings two decades of experience as a choral music educator at Shawnee Mission North and Lawrence Free State High schools and Oregon Trail Junior High School, all in KS, plus a two-year stint as assistant director with the Heartland Men’s Chorus in KCMO. Morton attended the University of Kansas, where she dual-majored as an undergraduate and received her Bachelor of Arts in both Music Education and in Theatre/Voice, and where she sang under the direction of Simon Carrington. She also holds a Masters of Choral Pedagogy from KU.
Morton has been involved in theatre in Lawrence for almost 40 years, from sketch comedy productions to Broadway cabaret performances, and has been a member of the American Choral Director’s Association and National Association of Music Education since 2003.
Uli Schneider, president of the KCWC board of directors, says, “We recently committed to further growth of the KCWC by increasing the scope of our executive director position. At the same time, we celebrated the retirement of our former artistic director of seven years, Dr. Cynthia Sheppard. Adding Hilary Morton as our new artistic director is another step in the process of expanding the KCWC with a forward-thinking, solid foundation. We are excited to begin rehearsals next week, and we welcome Hilary and her experience, energy, and expertise.”
