Kansas City PBS Wins a Regional EMMY

The station earned a top regional award for its coverage of the AIDS epidemic in Kansas City.

KANSAS CITY, MO, Oct. 28, 2024 – Kansas City PBS is proud to announce that its documentary AIDS in KC: Facing the Challenge has been awarded a prestigious 2024 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-America Regional Chapter EMMY® Award in the Human Interest - Long Form Documentary category. The award was presented during the 48th Annual Mid-America EMMY Award ceremony on Oct. 26, 2024, in Overland Park, Kansas.

"We are thrilled and deeply honored to receive this Mid-America EMMY Award," said Kliff Kuehl, president and CEO of Kansas City PBS. “This award reflects the hard work and passion of our talented filmmakers and the support of our community. Thank you to the Mid-America Chapter for recognizing our commitment to producing programs that inspire, educate and connect the people of Kansas City."

Created by filmmakers Sandy Woodson and Emily Woodring, AIDS in KC explores the history, challenges, and triumphs of Kansas City’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The second chapter in the series, Facing the Challenge, focuses on the community members who rallied to organize and support those affected by the epidemic in the mid-1980s and 90s.
